Anyone have tips for talking to people who think skin care isn't important, or that it's a luxury splurge? I find people in my environment who just want to buy products they see on QVC, and turn their noses up at a professional (and very affordable) treatment. Anyone have any good 'arguments' to use on people who have never had a facial treatment, but really need one? Thanks!

I wouldn't use an "argument," I would ask questions that make them think.
Does the product they are using provide what they are looking for. If yes, then leave it there.
If there was one thing they could change about their skin, what would that be? Be prepared to provide education on how to accomplish that, etc.
Hope this helps some.
I agree with brenda, make them think! If you are to buy a product from an infomercial, how do they know if the product is right for their individual concerns and skin type. remind them that you, as the professional, with have an opportunity to look at their skin and personalize a home care routine for then to complement the improvement they see with the treatment.
I love to remind clients that when they have the dentist clean their teeth they have to continue to brush each day to help reduce the plaque build up. In the same way, once we have improved the condition of the skin, it is up to the client to maintain this improvement with 'prescribed' homecare. Lets face it, we see the clients an hour a month if we are lucky, they live in it 24/ 7!
hope that you find this helpful :)
I agree with Brenda and Nicola- I try to remind them, like my dental hygenist reminds me, that homecare is extremely important to their skin health, once we have improved the condition of the skin.
thanks for the conversation.

Awesome feedback! Thanks for the 'dental' reminder!!!
When comparing my products and over the counter products this little bit of information always make them think and 99% of them will make the change. I tell my clients that our products are medical grade and scientifically proven to reach the dermis. The molecules are small enough to penetrate where we need them to go. Over the counter products will not do this, they sit on the face and don't do a whole lot for you. Also, if an over the counter product has a tiny percent of an ingredient they are going for FDA approves it because it has it in the product, but the consumers don't realize it could be a little dot of something and it's approved, but doesn't necessarily do a thing for you. Welcome to our world of marketing and people wonder why they have so many over the counter products in their bathrooms. This ALWAYS works for me! I think given them some true facts, but not go too far in depth with is always good. Good luck!
Hi Jodi:),
I know I am responding to an older post but I think it is still relevant. I work in a medispa in Clackamas, Oregon and I am familiar with clients who are reluctant to see the real benefit of professional skin care. I prefer to have a private consultation with my potential patient if that is realistic. This way they feel more comfortable to discuss any concerns. Remember that first and foremost, they are talking to you most likely because they have concerns about their skin. Remember that you are the professonal and that your first priority is to see that the client makes the bet decision possible given all the correct information. During the consultation I first ask what their concerns are. I then tell them what options we have available based on her concerns. I would tell the client that it is important to have a facial, peel or micro etc before begining any professional skin care line at home so that her products can actual work more effectively. Tell them that you would strongly advise this course of action to see optimal results. If they do not want to start wih the facial, make sure that you prescribe a home system that will benefit her the most. Obviously if you can get her skin prepped with good skin care at home, it can make your job easier provided she follows your instructions:) Good luck!
Hi Jennifer, read your imput on convincing clients they need a facial, your info was great. do u do a lot of micro and peels, if so do you think this is the only way to show the clients results, so they continue to do facial??? I only do cleansing i have a miro machine, (very Light) but dont have much experience, and peels i do none! so what are your recommendations on having clients see results and want to continue to come. I am a solo esti . Thank You Denise
