I went to a Beauty School that is now, no longer in business, thank goodness. I got an unacceptable level of education and it amazes me that the women who graduated from there are no longer in the business period. I would like to add that we had some interesting experiences and wonderful colorful characters at Beauty School.
My original teacher was amazing! She made you work hard, gave information, and when she didn't know the answer, would find out for us. She taught us so much! She went to days and since I was going to night school, I missed her!
We had the teacher who "used to drink" but since she gave up alcohol, she felt much better. Of course she still always talked like she was drunk in her slurred speach. Oh, and she smoked like a freight train. She smoked maybe a pack in the evening that I was there. But I truly LOVED her. She had a down-to-earth, no nonsense approach that was real life and not caught up in the hype of the moment. She believed in teaching us the RIGHT way.
During my stint at School, they demoted her and put in a perky 21-year old. She was a good teacher too but very young. Every time I asked a question, she would consider it a personal affront to her skills. It got really frustrating when she tried to explain the laws and couldn't do it quite right and when I pointed out that what she was saying was NOT how the law was written, she got so mad she stomped out of the classroom. I just didn't want to miss anything on the test.
Another favorite was when they missed an entire chapter on Electricity. AN ENTIRE CHAPTER!!! Who does that? I didn't even notice until the final exam and I missed 12 questions all related to this chapter. When I pointed it out, they were like, oops. sorry. You have to retake the exam. Since I had FAILED it! I never failed a test outside of algebra in my life!
And can I now get licensed as an instructor so that this does not happen again? No. Not one school other than mine even offered Esthetic Instructor Certification. Can I go to another school and just get a refresher on anything? Nope. Nobody offers that either. I've taken a million classes but now, with a new baby, I cannot leave for a long weekend.
So, I am EXCITED that ASCP is offering free webinars! I LOVE THEM and I highly encourage everybody to join and do every one of the webinars! They are worth every ounce of the liability joining fee.
