Here are my thoughts on the Midwest Beauty Show and Face and Body:
LOTS AND LOTS of those travel TENS units. it's like the Dead Sea Lotion company at the mall. They really try and hard sell you. I have to say my associate bought one. Not really impressed and you don't have to be a professional to sell them. AND ONE ON EVERY AISLE.
LOVED talking with the girls at SKIN DEEP, Dermaware, PFB, Dermaswiss, Clear My Head, Fake Bake and LOVE LOVE LOVE TIZO!!!
I am going…

SO, I have seen on here where people are having lots of questions about booth rent space, contracts, and what to do about concerns about their space. I would like to take a moment and list some things to consider when you are looking into booth rent/renting space/hiring on at a new place.
I once worked at a spa that offered body treatments for 60$ an hour about after cleaning up after the mud mess, I was making $0. So mark…

I get asked all the time if I do spray tan. I don't...anymore. I used to. I thought that the spray tan look was so amazing. As a Fitzpatrick type 1 I can honestly say that I LOVE to recommend it as a way of getting color on anyone. I just recommend someone else to do it.
Spray tanning came out while I was in school but we were never trained on how to do it. So, when my former boss decided to get one and have me spray people, I originally thought "what a terrific idea!!! Just…

There are so many things that my school did not prepare me for upon completion of my training in Esthetics. I was not given any kind of realistic job futures. Don't get me wrong! I know that Esthetics is like a lot of things, you get out of it what you put into it, but when I went in to the school I attended for my "Interview" They told me job prospects could reach into the 40,000$ range. Now, I don't know about you, but that has taken me years to build up to and didn't include the…

As is sit in my house looking out at the snow, and sick with the flu, I am wondering what next year is going to bring in for us! This, naturally, leads me to think about my New Year's Resolutions and they generally are different than most people's resolutions. I want more time to myself, more money into my business, and to finally finish my book. But what about you?
Do you have business goals that you want to persue? What are they? When you think about your goals for this year,…

Fifteen years ago, I was diagnosed with Hashimoto's Disease, which is an autoimmune disorder that affects your thyroid function. It affects every aspect of my body because your thyroid controls all body processes. Early on the first few symptoms were severe weight gain and then weight loss and then weight gain again (up to 80lbs in a month), my hair would fall out, my skin would dry up, and I'd have pregnancy mask-like hormonal skin changes.
The skin changes were the worst. Not…

When I was 25, I had my first child. Other than a major problem with my thyroid condition, I had no real adverse skin effects during that pregnancy. When I was 37, I gave birth to my second and last child. And WHOA!!! What the heck happened?!!!! I had all kinds of problems with my skin. My skin did actually clear up during my pregnancy, but my melasma got really bad. So Bad, that my friends made jokes and asked about my rare skin condition. Once I had my precious Daisy, I had serious…

I went to a Beauty School that is now, no longer in business, thank goodness. I got an unacceptable level of education and it amazes me that the women who graduated from there are no longer in the business period. I would like to add that we had some interesting experiences and wonderful colorful characters at Beauty School.
My original teacher was amazing! She made you work hard, gave information, and when she didn't know the answer, would find out for us. She taught us so…

I have battled my skin for many many many years! When I was small I got a few bad sunburns then as I became a teenager and had not only hormonal breakouts but the deep cycstic acne that was a result of an undiagnosed food allergy and Celiac's Disease. As I got older and older The acne became worse even after trying many different acne products, dermatologists, and chemical peels. My face then became red ALL the time and I had large pores, cycstic acne, and hormonal discoloration. I spent…
