My school is a cosmo/esty school. Most of the clients come in for hair and maybe 1 out of 20 wants a skin care treatment. Maybe 4 out of 20 wants waxing. We used to have a special for our friends and family where we could practice on them for free but they have taken that away.
All I have to get the word out is business cards and facebook, my instructor told me I wasn't allowed to pass out flyers. I would looove to be able to actually work in our clinic on a client, it's a completely different experience than working on a classmate. Any other forms of free advertising that would help me pull in clients? My teacher said this is the perfect time to build up your clientel but it is VERY difficult!

Are any of the Cosmo students spreading the word for you? Are they letting their own clients they work on know that YOU are available to do facials? It seems like your instructor would be at least allowing some kind of flyer or brochure in the Cosmo working area on your behalf. Is there any advertisement being placed at the checkin/checkout area? Hang out at the Mall and makeup areas handing out your cards. I live in a somewhat small town and attend an Esty only school. But you would not believe how many people did not even Know about our school. Maybe people just think Hair school about your school. Get the word out even if it is with word of mouth or business cards. Use whatever you are allowed to use. Keep a menu with you too. That way you can have it handy if someone needs more info. Hang in there cause it is so worth it!!!
thanks, i will be partnering with the cosmos =)
Craigslist. People love cheap anything on there! (Not saying you are cheap...but beauty school prices are cheaper than anywhere else) It is free to advertise in the beauty section on there. I am an educator and I get MOST of my waxing models for my students from Craigslist. If you are working in a public place like the school you will be fine...I say this because some users of Craigslist can be dodgy (men in particular)
i agree, i put an add up and got really weird responses, but one great one! So ill be posting again!
You are your advertisement right now...Get out walk and talk on your free time and even if you work or just go to school when you take a lunch always market what you do. Talk with the people you get lunch from, order breakfast, get coffee, pops, juice, snacks etc., lol.... You interact with a lot of people that are potentials. Every person that you cross paths with should have one of your business cards. Talk on what you know and what you have learned (depending on how far you are in your education) be confident in what you know. Trust me it shows when you talk to potential and current clients. And Study Study Study!!!!!! See if you can visit nearby colleges where you are and pass out your cards there and talk with some that have time to talk. I agree with Diane carry a menu with you at all times while you are in school. Also learn your school's,menu, for any questions that will arise while you are out.
Good Luck!!!!!
thank you!!!
thank you so much this is VERY helpful!
I'm really surprised to hear this. At our school, the student clinic was filled by the school. The prices were very cheap and people in the community would just call and book appointments. We never had to go out and find our own while in school, which would have been unrealistic for me, as I lived 45 minutes away in a different county.
yeah i wish the school did more but it does help me because when im on my own i'll be getting my own clients.
