I'm a new Esty and I'm trying to expand my knowledge in order to provide my clients with the best treatment and care. I think specializing in Acne Treatment is very rewarding because of the satisfaction that I feel after helping someone with acne. Once I get my clients clear and on a maintenance program, what treatment(s) can I offer them that would reduce the appearance of acne scars?
I would love everyone's input on this. Thanks!

@Mary Lou - that's sooo exciting! There's now a Face Reality Certified Acne Specialist group here on Skin Care Professionals that I just started yesterday. About the scar tx. - I use a slanted orange stick and dip it in the tca solution so I have just a little drop on the end of it. Dr. Fulton actually takes a long wooden q-tip and breaks it so he has a pointy end to dip into the tca. This is actually how he described it in an email to me... haha. I said that I needed a demo of it; and that's exactly what he did. I put a a teeny drop into the scar only, put the fan on it to let it dry (and bring down the stinging that will ensue). Then I go on to another scar and do the same. I come back when it's dry and add another drop until it blanches. I uploaded a picture of the blanching so you can see what it should look like. I do this once a month. So far I don't charge or only charge $25 because I'm still testing it out on clients to really see if I get consistent results.
Hi Laura, Do you have an update on the status of the scar reduction procedure you performed on the client pictured? I'd love to hear how it worked out. Thanks.
This is great information but I do have a question - are you treating the whole face or just the deep scars? And if you do the entire face, would you do a combination peel using a different acid solution for that would target another area of concern such as hyperpigmentation (freckling)?
In this particular case I am only treating the deep scarring. In the past, I had been giving her tca/mandelic/lactic peels over her entire face for acne and pih.
Thanks, I was going to start her on a lighter resurfacing treatment with glycolic/lactic acids and then move up to a TCA but at a much less percentage than what you are using for the deep scar tissue. That's a great idea to target just those areas that need a little more activity.
If you have tried the TCA treatment and you can't eliminate the acne scarring, there is a new topical cosmetic filler on the market. Dermaflage is a concealment option that is better than regular make up and we have had some great feedback from users who are covering ice pick and boxcar scars. Dermaflage uses a silicone blend which conforms to the contour of the scar, creating a second skin which covers the indented area. For more information go to www.dermaflage.com
