LED Light....I Wouldn't Be Without It!! 41 Replies

My first experience with LED was way back in 2003. It's kind of a funny story and I think I'll make a video and put on my website! Revitalight was my first machine. I got some great results, but after a while I couldn't handle sitting there for as…Continue

Help! I scratched client with dermafile! 31 Replies

I tried the dermafile on a client, while she was steaming with a SS enyme masque yesterday, and she had a large, round scar on her lower cheek that she was concerned about. She wrote me today and said this: "scratched an area in a line under where…Continue

Katrina- all citrus and pine oils are violently phototoxic and can cause large watery blisters. This is true on all people. People with photo toxic medications should avoid them altogether. Synthroid, a thyroid medication is one of them, particularly in Fitzpatrick types 1 and2. Lower doses .25 mcg to .50 mcg tends to be ok. However, if they're like me, on 300 mcg I have to be doubly careful. I do use LED and I get great results and I do believe it has helped me a lot both with skin and thyroid stuff. But if it is contra indicated for your machine, then I would start with low times and cover the thyroid gland d itself.

Amy....good stuff! Thanks for calling your Physician and filling us all in on that info. We really appreciate it!

Johanna.....I've done LED after all of skin script peels and achieved great results. I' ve done up to five layers of their TCA and then 15 minutes LED....Beautiful!! I can't vouch for other companies peels though. Maybe start with just five minutes of LED at first, check your client to make sure all is well and then add more time. Some may say that the LED will effect the results in a contraindicated way...I can only tell you that I've achieved some pretty amazing results doing it.

Amy, not to go off subject of LED but can I ask which certain essential oils can be extremely photosensitive for a thyroid condition? I do use a blend of essential oils on clients at times so I'd like to be aware, thanks.

I called my thyroid specialist today to ask. She laughed at me! She said that there has not been one study done to say it's not okay. She DID say that certain thyroid medications can make you photosensitive. But this is true for "natural" skincare too. Certain essential oils are EXTREMELY photosensitive! Fyi. I have found no articles or research yet!

Hi Shelley, would you recommend using led after chemical peel(self neutralizing or not)? If so, is there a color we need to avoid as well? Thank you!

I would use a thicker dark towel just to certain.

Willie...I send you an email on what to do about that!

Comment by Nicole on February 28, 2014 at 10:28am

Shelley- what would you use to cover the area- would a towel be enough?

Hi Shelley, I am very gentle with my Celluma but it is starting to literally come apart at the seams. Is there an adhesive that I could use to re-seal it? Perhaps e-6000 adhesive? Thanks

Well, what I first learned about this years ago was that LED could in fact effect someone who has a thyroid issue. I was never told exactly how it does that, only that if they are hypo it could change to hyper and visa versa.

I've had conversation lately with the Celluma experts and they informed me that some physicians are now using LED to help thyroid problems. Hmmm.....

Where does that leave us? I always go back to "better safe than sorry". I would cover the area if your client  is under supervision for this issue. I will pick the celluma bigwigs brain a lttle more. They really know their stuff. I'll get back to you with more info!
