Stinkin' No-shows!

So, for starters, I'm 22. I've recently just hit past my 300 hour mark at the Cinta Aveda Institute in San Francisco. I've seen a total of 6 people as actual clients so far, and every day I'm at school, the more and more motivated and deeper in love I get with my career path of choice.

Of course, given, there will be no-shows. How frustrating is that?…

*sigh*

I feel like touching everything...  No, not anything weird, here.. I've just been cooped up in my Lash Room (aka.. "Micro Room", because it's so small and cozy)  or Wax Room for the last 2 weeks with an unbelievable busy schedule (insert another deep breath here).  So now I've got a few slow days to catch up (breath..) on everything that falls apart around me.  I just want to restock, reorder and touch everything at the shop before I get busy with the upcoming Thanksgiving…

How different cultures come into play in our spa or salon.

I think this is a must read for anybody who is curious about other cultures...learning about each other can help our business and personal lives run that bit smoother if we take the time to just educate ourselves on 'why people are the way they are'

esthetics bed

looking for an inexpensive esthetics bed that needs to be wide enough for my tall & heavier clients. I also do lots of wxng on same bed.   any suggestions on the best bed?  need cradle for back facials..  I currently have an esthetics bed and it is comfy but not very good for my bigger and taller clients since their legs go over the side of bed.

Lash Schedule.....

Today was scheduled to be a busy day. Yea, right... until I got to the 'shop' at 8:30am to find my 2 new clients canceled.  1 sick child and the other allergies from the West Texas dirt and crud that just blew in.

I count my blessing to have a been productive this morning already.  Cleaning, restocking, and making fliers for the upcoming holiday season.

Have a great week,

Lash ya Later!

HydraFacial machine by Edge Systems

I'm considering getting the HydraFacial machine from Edge Systems. I know that they have a few models available in different price points, but haven't decided which would be the best investment, yet.  Has anyone used it, or currently own one, if so what do you think of it?  Better / worse than other microderm machines? Ease of use?  How have your clients responded to it?  Would you use / purchase it again?  I would greatly appreciate any thoughts or recommendations on this.  Thanks in advance!

Microdermabrasion Machines

Hi Everyone, I am new to the profession and just starting up and buying all my equipment.  I do not know which Microdermabrasion machine to get...any suggestions?  I do like the diamond vs the crystals but do not want to pay a small fortune.   Are there any brands in particular that are better?

Eyelash tinting regulations

Eyelash tinting is a confusing topic for me.

During my esthetics training, which was at a very reputable Aveda Institute, I was trained on how to perform eyelash tinting. When working in New York at the Aveda flagship, we did not perform this service as there was, it was explained to me, a federal law prohibiting it. In California, at both an Aveda spa and an independent spa where I worked, we performed eyelash tinting. Here in Chicago, the service is very popular.…

Sebaceous Hyperplasia - Has anyone treated a client with this disorder?

I have a client who has sebaceous hyperplasia.  I've done research on the problem and have been following the a combination of treatments such as hyfrecator, microdermabrasion and peels.  My client is extremely oil, thick skin, and is Fitzpatrick II.  Anyone have any suggestions as to proper treatment? I know this is a disorder of the sebaceous gland and there is no fix.  Just looking for control of the excessive oil and shrinking of the sebaceous pockets "whitish material".  Thanks.

Putting Your Best Face Forward!!

If your live in New Mexico, you probably spend some time in the sun. Who doesn’t? I mean, isn’t that why we live here in the first place? But the Land of Enchantment is not without it’s toll on your skin. We have a high altitude which, while making New Mexico a beautiful place to live also makes it #1 for skin cancers in the entire United States of America.

Growing up in New York City I spent many happy hours on the beaches of Long Island. My parents rented a summer bungalow…

What's in Your Tool Box? Article in Les Nouvelles.

Hi Everyonne...I have an article in the September issue of Les Nouvelles Esthetiques. It's on page 23 and it's called "what's in your tool box?" They definitely did some editing though because there is a section in there about multifunction towers and anyone who knows me, knows that I'm not a big fan of spending money on that type of equipment. I have to say though that it's very much an honor to have an article published!!!
