Tax questions for a Independent Esthetician?

I am so confused as to what I need for next years tax's. I have my own room in a local salon, I book my own appointments, my customers pay me (not the salon). I don't get paid from the salon at all, just what I make off of my appointments. Saying all that, what exactly do I need to do in order to "show" income? Do I need a LLC, tax id #, separate checking account, business name (or can I just use my name) do I need to see an attorney or a accountant??? Any advice is greatly appreciated!

Midwest Beauty Show 2014

Here are my thoughts on the Midwest Beauty Show and Face and Body:

LOTS AND LOTS of those travel TENS units. it's like the Dead Sea Lotion company at the mall. They really try and hard sell you. I have to say my associate bought one. Not really impressed and you don't have to be a professional to sell them. AND ONE ON EVERY AISLE.

LOVED talking with the girls at SKIN DEEP, Dermaware, PFB, Dermaswiss, Clear My Head, Fake Bake and LOVE LOVE LOVE TIZO!!!

I am going…

New Space/Job Considerations

SO, I have seen on here where people are having lots of questions about booth rent space, contracts, and what to do about concerns about their space.  I would like to take a moment and list some things to consider when you are looking into booth rent/renting space/hiring on at a new place.

  • What kinds of treatments will be offered.

I once worked at a spa that offered body treatments for 60$ an hour about after cleaning up after the mud mess, I was making $0. So mark…

Mag light with a stand

Looking for a mag light with a stand that does not emit any heat. I saw led light at the show seem pretty weak, but it did not emit any heat on the skin. Please help looking for something to easily pull back and fourth and that is strong. I need it for brow and face waxing. Thank you

Hi if anyone could please advice me I would truly appreciate it.  I opened up a spa business in which hair services will be offer.  I am in the process of hiring a hairstylist and I am negotiating a commission.  She will be buying all the products she will use. I will be supplying the space and equipment as well as promoting for customers.   Would a 65% to her 35% to the spa be a fair commission? What is usually the percent one would give in this situation?

Learn Learn Learn

As we all know if we do not learn and present our clients with new things they will leave and go to the next - often in the skin care business we see a great application or product - we purchase it and use our clients to practice on (don't feel bad every body does it even the Doctors why do you think it is called the practice)

but I have found that not to be the best way - I have spend tons of Dollars to get educated in Thailand (Thai Massage and natural health certificate, China Amma…

A word about marketing and pricing!

Please remember Girls cheapest price is not always as good - you always pay for what you get - that is the same every where - there are no free Lunches - except for a promotion :)

So when you select products make sure first and foremost - it does what is says it does and it will fit your needs. That is why you should always just order a sample or small order and test the product. Second do not listen to much to what another person says about the product or service. That persons needs…
